Good Day Racers AU RACE RELEASE GUIDELINES
All races are to be released only in conditions, which permit the birds a reasonable opportunity to return safely. Listed below are the current race release guidelines and penalty points associated with each weather condition (in parenthesis). The race release person is responsible for checking to see if any, or several, of the following conditions exist.
Whenever the total penalty points reach 10 or higher, the birds should not be released. It is suggested that the weather conditions be checked every 50 miles along the racecourse.
- Drizzle at release sight with the sun visible (5)
- Any other rain conditions (10)
- Smoke/haze (7)
- Low heavy cloud cover (8)
- K-factor of 5 or higher (8)
- Snowing (10)
- Light fog with sun visible (5)
- Any other foggy conditions (10)
- Wind
- Extreme volatility, i.e. 10 mph greater than normal (5)
- Cross winds (5)
- Temperature - any extremes for your area (5)
- Other races crossing the path of your race course that day (7)
- Fronts
- Approaching your race course (5)
- Crossing your race course (8)
Additionally, the birds should not be released at the beginning of geographic structures or in the proximity of airports. It is recommended that birds should have at least 20 miles start before approaching such, if possible.
Birds must not be crowded in shipping crates allowing each bird adequate access to clean water & feed.
Trailers must be adequately ventilated and offer birds protection from the elements and animals.
Any flagrant violation of these race release guidelines will be considered a breach of the A.U. Code of Ethics.
